FAQs

For Diabetes.

Medical research has established beyond doubt that regular practice of tai chi can improve balance, lower blood pressure and improve circulation, as members of our class can testify.  It has been found in many cases to be as effective as other interventions in controlling type 2 diabetes and may help to avoid the need for drugs.

For Arthritis.

If you have arthritis you will probably been advised to keep the joints moving but exercising at home can be hard to keep up.

The Sun style tai chi we practice has been chosen for its suitability for arthritis sufferers as there is less generally stress on the knees and hips than with other styles and it can be done very gently.  As everything is done to your own comfort level the challenge of each movement can gradually be increased as you become more flexible and stronger and because it is gentle and enjoyable you may find yourself wanting to practice at home!

Arthritis Care UK recommends tai chi to arthritis sufferers (information soon to be added to their website), but many general tai chi classes may possibly be found too demanding if your movement is very restricted. With us you can even do some of it seated if you need to – we can adapt the movements to fit what you can do.

  For hypertension

The slow flowing movements of tai chi are very calming. They also demand complete concentration, which relaxes mental tension. Regular practice often leads to regulation of blood pressure and improved circulation.
Supporting Cardiac Recovery

Some hospitals are now using a twelve week course of gentle tai chi to help patients recovering from heart attacks.
